Mom Win of the Week: We finally bit the bullet and bough Nolan a non toddler bed. Just like with Isla, we ended up going straight to a queen sized bed. We do this so that our purchase (whyyy are beds so expensive??) will last a little longer and so one of us has somewhere else to sleep when we get kicked out of our own bed. Nolan starts the night in his room, but migrates into our bed halfway through. Then one of us (Mostly AJ because that’s who he wants. It’s fine, it’s his turn. Isla always wanted me.) takes him back middle of the night and sleeps with him. It’s not ideal, but you do what you gotta do when you have kids who don’t sleep. Eventually, we’ll fade out sleeping with him once he’s comfortable and, god willing, he’ll sleep alone like Isla (finally) does. I know that probably doesn’t sound much like a win, but the transition has been pretty effortless, so it’s a win in my book.
We also went to the pumpkin patch this week, and dare I say it was easy. I didn’t have to chase anyone, talk anyone through a meltdown and I got to enjoy my pumpkin cake without anyone crying. It was pretty incredible. Have I mentioned I’m digging this big kid life??
Mom Fail of the Week: Things have been relatively calm lately. No huge fails to report. Not to say there haven’t been any. I think I’ve just lowered my standards. There was the instance of Nolan crying on the floor in the middle of our favorite taqueria. But, honestly, I no longer consider that my fail. Which I suppose makes it a win? Ha!
Currently:
Listening to: Slow Burn has been in my Library for a while, and I’ve already listened to Season 2 about the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. I just started Season 1 about Watergate and I’m hooked. I know only the basics of Watergate, but I’m excited to learn more. I love their style of reporting.
Watching: I started Workin’ Moms on Netflix a while ago and then forgot about it. I’m back on the wagon and it is so good. It hits just about every motherhood feel, whether you work or not.
Looking forward to: at the risk of sounding like a broken record- Turks & Caicos!!
Wearing: honestly, I’ve been at a loss. It’s hot some days, it’s cold other days, and then there’s the days its both. I just bought my third pair of these leggings and they’ve been on heavy rotation. They’ve held up just as well as any I’ve had from Athleta or Lululemon and you can’t beat the price.
I am in the market for new tennis shoes. Sneakers? I don’t play tennis in them (obviously), but I’ve also never called them sneakers. Whatever you call them, what are your go to’s? I need max comfort, but also need them to be cute.
Meal Planning: the wheels fell off the bus this week. There were some good, healthy options like spaghetti squash and meat sauce and lean pork in chili verde that I turned into burrito bowls, but there was also a lot of treats. But how am I supposed to turn down pumpkin cake at the pumpkin patch? It’s a once a year thing! Plus, all the pumpkin treats at Trader Joe’s. It’s a slippery slope from here to the end of the year food wise and I’m trying really hard to make good choices, but damn it’s hard!!
