We were invited to attend Beaches Moms Social Media On The Sand at Beaches Turks and Caicos. We paid a deeply discounted rate and airfare to attend. All opinions are 100% our own.
Beaches Moms Social Media On The Sand is an invite-only conference that takes place at Beaches Resort in Turks and Caicos. Over 100 digital mom influencers gathered from all over the country to learn from entrepreneurs, collaborate with top brands, network with likeminded women, and enjoy everything the resort has to offer.
If you follow us on Instagram, you may be wondering what all this #BeachesMoms and #SocialMediaOnTheSand stuff really is. And if you’re curious to see it, we have a highlight video of all the fun from the week that you can check out at the bottom of this post.
The conference
While there were events and activities every day, the bulk of the conference was on day two. The conference was broken up in to two parts––keynote speakers before lunch and breakout sessions after lunch.
The theme of this year’s Social Media On The Sand Conference was the 5 Senses. I thoroughly appreciated their use of puns in their branding, Sights to SEA, HEAR we go, and so many more. My graphic designer heart really loved the consistency across the entire conference, incorporating elements of the 5 senses in almost everything we did!
I also want to give a shout out the conference team. They were all so helpful, positive, and really made the experience a great one. We know firsthand that putting an event together is never an easy task, especially one of this size! Every single team member we met was gracious and always had a smile on their face.
Speakers and panelists
We had heard the rumors that the speakers at Social Media on the Sand are top-notch, and we were not disappointed. From Debbie-Ann White, the mastermind behind the entire conference, to Jamie Kern Lima, the Co-founder of IT Cosmetics, each person’s story was a treat to listen to. Other speakers included Adam Stewart, the Deputy Chairman of Sandals Resorts International and Rebecca Minkoff. Daymond John joined us on day four for a special oceanside chat, too. I’m a huge Shark Tank fan so it was definitely a highlight for me. In addition, we got to hear from Facebook and YouTube experts who offered great insight in to the platforms we use every day.
The key takeaways for me centered on being authentic and never giving up. So many of these very entrepreneurs who seem so successful, failed many, many times. It really drove home that old trope of being an “overnight success” takes years (or decades) of hard work and dedication.
Sponsors and swag
The surprises from Social Media on the Sand sponsors started before we were even on property. We received a beach towel, gift cards from swimwear brand Hapari and Abercrombie Kids, and a gift box of goodies sent straight to our door.
All of the Beaches Moms sponsors were incredibly generous. It really felt like we were getting surprises around every corner! Our favorites included getting our hair braided by DryBar, our makeup done by IT Cosmetics, and an entire Health and Wellness Village where we received skincare products and a facial! Coola Suncare was there (it felt like around every corner) to spray us down in their lightweight, organic, and reef-safe sunscreens––a real relief since the sun in the Caribbean is much more intense than we’re used to.
Parties and Entertainment
The #BeachesMoms Social Media On The Sand team really went all out when it came to the parties. Our first night we had the opportunity to connect and network with all of our fellow Beaches Moms at the Welcome Party. This party took place around a beautiful pool with sweeping views of the beach and ocean. There were drinks, passed appetizers, and many photo opportunities. It was a great welcome after a long travel day!
We will be the first to admit, we had no idea what to expect with the DiscGLOW party planned for us on day two. For those who don’t know, a silent disco is an event where all attendees wear headphones and choose their music and volume. This particular party was sponsored by IBCCES, an organization that works to create certified destinations for families around the world. They are the global leaders in training and certification for cognitive and sensory disorders. More about what we learned about them and Beaches Resorts will be coming in a separate post!
The DiscGLOW party ended up being our favorite! It was so fun to choose your own music and if you needed a break, just take off your headphones!
The Hunter Hayes special performance was another highlight. And we even had the opportunity to get a photo with him after the performance, he was super sweet!
Willy Wonka’s Splendiferous Fun Factory Farewell party was the perfect culmination of the 5 day conference. There were endless food options, drinks, colorful decor, all set around the French Village pool which made for a gorgeous evening.
