DIY Minecraft Balloon Arch

You know we love balloons as decor around here and this Minecraft balloon arch was a hit with my boys. This post has been a long time coming as it’s been sitting in our drafts for over a year. I created this balloon arch as a surprise for Harrison when he woke up on his 8th birthday, had plans to post it in the coming month, but then the pandemic hit and everything was put on the back burner.

Better late than never? That’s what I’m telling myself anyway.

Let me begin by saying, I’m no expert. I normally leave these things to the professionals but I had leftover balloons and decided to attempt a balloon arch to surprise him. I have to say, it turned out better than I thought!

Minecraft Balloon Arch Supplies

You need just a few things to make your arch a success.

• Anchors – Any type of cardboard sized to hide behind a balloon works, we used circular coasters that were leftover from another party
• Balloons (see below for supply lists)
• Low temp glue gun
• Step ladder
• A blank wall

How To Assemble Your Balloon Arch

First, you need to blow up your balloons. Make sure you have a range of sizes and colors for your latex balloons. Bigger balloons will help anchor the arch and smaller balloons are great for filler. Place your “anchors” on the wall using strong tape or push pins. Then use the low temperature glue gun to attach larger balloons to the anchors. Hold each balloon for at least 10 seconds to make sure it sticks.

Then, you keep building on what you have. Add balloons within the gaps until they are all connected.

Make sure you step back periodically and take a look at how it’s coming together. You may notice one side looks heavier than the other or see a gap that you couldn’t see while working.
