It’s no secret around here that we will take any reason to throw a party and that we love to celebrate our friends, so, of course, we couldn’t let Galentine’s Day go by without recognizing it!
If you aren’t familiar with Galentine’s Day, let me fill you in. It started on the show Parks & Rec. Every February 13, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler’s character) invited all her best gal pals to the waffle house to celebrate their friendship. Brittany and I are both huge fans of Amy Poehler, Leslie Knope and Parks & Rec, and everything Galentine’s Day stands for, so it was the perfect fit.
We created a waffle bar using Kodiak Cakes Buttermilk Power Cakes Waffle and Flapjack mix. This is our favorite mix to use because it has 14 grams of protein per serving (or more depending on how you prepare them), no artificial preservatives and are 100% whole grain. They really do taste so much better than your traditional waffle mix and you can pronounce all the ingredients!
Kodiak Cakes also sent us some Double Dark Chocolate Power Bake Muffin Mix to try as well. I was so excited to try these because I’m already such a big fan of the brand. These didn’t disappoint and rounded out our waffle/breakfast bar nicely.
To cover everyone’s tastes, we had sweet and savory options. Berries, syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles for the sweet teeth and Chick Fil A chicken strips (work smarter, not harder), bacon, gravy and cheese for the savory crowd. Add some orange juice and sparkling wine for mimosas and the waffle bar is complete!
Once the food was covered, we went to work on our favorite part- decorating. We partnered with Oriental Trading Company for the bulk of the decorating. They have a huge selection for a Galentine’s Day celebration and we had so much fun dreaming up different ways to decorate. There was so much to choose from we had so many ideas! But, we’re pretty obsessed with everything balloon right now, so we knew it had to be a balloon wall. I have been dying for another excuse to make another balloon garland/wall after Isla’s birthday party.
We will be sharing more about how to construct your own balloon wall next week! It came out sooooo good and I can’t bring myself to take it down. This baby is staying up as long as it will last!
A Galentine’s Day gesture doesn’t have to be something as grand as a waffle bar brunch. Even just a quick text telling your mom friends how important they are to you can go a long way! The celebration of love all February long might be a made up Hallmark holiday, but whether it’s fabricated or not, there’s never a bad reason to take time to tell people how much you love them!
Do you do anything to celebrate Galentine’s Day?
