Grocery Outlet is currently having their twice yearly 20% off wine sale. Their prices are already incredible (as is their wine selection!), and this sale makes it even better!
I don’t go in here often because I usually shop with kids, which means I have approximately 10 minutes to get all of our staples before anyone breaks anything or starts crying. But, after shopping their wine sale and seeing their impressive collection of wine, I’m a convert. They have such a wide selection of everything, it makes shopping like a treasure hunt!
We quickly found an employee who turned out to be a wine expert. He pointed us in the direction of three of his favorite wines. He was very helpful and knowledgeable about each wine and what pairings would go well. We ended up with a old vine zinfandel, a primitivo and a chardonnay. The zinfandel and chardonnay are actually fairly local to our area too! The perks of living in Northern California!
With Grilled Cheese Day coming up on April 12, we thought it would be fun to pair each wine with a different grilled cheese. Our new friend, the wine expert, was able to help us pair the wines he recommended with different cheeses Grocery Outlet had available.
The selection at Grocery Outlet was impressive and we found everything we needed easily. While the selection does vary by location, we know that you’ll always be able to find something you love there!
We paired the Primitivo with Brie and green apple grilled cheese. This full-bodied wine needed a dash of freshness (in the apple) to balance it out.
Ingredients needed: Full-bodied Primitivo, bread, butter, Brie, sliced green apple.
The old vine Zinfandel went well with the harder cheeses and we ended up doing a three cheese blend including Gouda, sharp Cheddar and an outer layer of Parmesan melted for a crispier crust. This Zin is so versatile, we literally could have paired it with anything. We chose a medium-bodied Zin so it was the perfect pair to the Gouda.
Ingredients needed: Medium-bodied Zinfandel, bread, butter, sharp Cheddar, Gouda, grated Parmesan for the outer layer.
We paired the lightest of the bunch, the Chardonnay, with a salami cheddar grilled cheese. The crisp Chardonnay we chose paired perfectly with a standard grilled cheese with a twist. The saltiness of the salami is the perfect addition.
Ingredients needed: Crisp Chardonnay, bread, butter, a hard cheddar, a thick pre-cut salami.
The 20% off wine sale ends April 3, so make sure to stop in there to get everything you need to host family for Easter over the weekend. If you sign up on Grocery Outlet’s email list, you will receive a coupon for $3 off!
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by everything Grocery Outlet had to offer! It’s definitely going to be my new spot to find amazing wine at an even better value.
