Have you ever wondered if a clothing subscription service like Wantable is right for you? Heather and I gave it a shot for you! There are many pros and cons of an online styling service like Wantable and we’ve broken those down for you below.
How Wantable Works
- Pick your box. There are a few to choose from including an Active Edit, Men’s Edit, and seasonal Edits!
- Take the style quiz. Fill it out with your style preferences, sizes, and write a note to your stylist with any additional information.
- Decide how often you want a box. You can choose a range from ongoing (back-to-back) to seasonally (every 3 months).
- Get your box. Check out your 7 pieces handpicked for you!
- Try on. Share on social media with #IAmWantable.
- Decide what you want. This is the hardest decision but if you choose 5 or more pieces you get an additional 20% off. Does that help or make it harder? Ha!
- Send back the rest. They make it easy with an included pre-paid USPS packaging to send back anything you don’t want within 5 days.

Pros of Wantable
You can try on in the comfort of your own home. I am not a person who likes to try things on in store. Even in pre-pandemic times I would often wait until I got home or ordered online and would end up with a bunch of returns. With Wantable, you can try on at home and send back everything you don’t like!
You get 5 days to try on. And if you need longer, you can extend it… not speaking from experience or anything, haha!
You can leave notes to your stylist. Letting my stylist know about my very busy pandemic lifestyle of going from my office to my kitchen 87 times per day really helped her to style me. Ha! But for real, I didn’t want a bunch of going out clothes when the only going out I’m doing right now is dropping and picking kids up from school. She has nailed it!
The stream makes it easy to browse styles. Are you a person who enjoys browsing clothing online and clicking ‘add to cart’? The Stream allows you to do just that! When you see something you like, click ‘request’, and it will be added to your next Edit!
Wantable works within your budget. You can set budget parameters within your style quiz so you only get items within your price range.
Buy more, save more. If you want to keep 5 or more items from your Edit, you get a 20% discount on the entire order.
Cons of Wantable
It’s not for bargain hunters. I’ve tried to make it a point in the past year to buy less “fast fashion.” I’ve been focusing on really thinking about what I need and buying quality pieces that will last. Wantable could be a great way to do that but it does cost more than, say, a trip to Old Navy. Our conversation on the podcast with Nicole about fast fashion and working toward being more sustainable with the clothing we buy, is a great way to dip your toes in to this topic.
There’s a styling fee. It’s $20 and is applied to anything you purchase. I can’t think of any other similar company that doesn’t have this fee (they need to have a sustainable business, after all) but it is part of the cost.
It requires planning. If you need an outfit on a whim or short notice, you are going to have to think ahead. Your stylist could definitely pull some great options for specific events (remember those?!), but it will take time to communicate your needs and actually receive your Edit.
Sharing your specific finds is tricky. When I find a piece I love, I want to share it with everyone! For example, I got a hoodie in one of my edits that I love. The fit is great, the quality is fantastic, and it’s so soft. It’s the perfect “spending all my time at home” piece. But, most of the pieces at Wantable are limited buys, meaning they aren’t always available. While I love the uniqueness this provides, and the fact that this means they always have new inventory, it’s hard to find something again.
Exchanges are tricky too. Another challenge of the limited inventory is that exchanges aren’t always available. I was really disappointed to send a sweater back that didn’t quite fit. Sizing up would have made it perfect, but the item was already sold out. It was such a bummer!
