I started 2020 with a goal of slowly replacing the household products I use everyday with greener, more sustainable ones as we ran out. It’s important to me that my family does as much as it reasonably can to reduce our impact on the planet. However, that’s an extremely daunting idea for a family with two young children. My idea was that adding small behavior shifts and opting for greener products slowly instead of all at once would make it a more practical endeavor. I wanted to be thoughtful about the things I brought into my home, and vote with my dollar. My goal was to document these swaps and changes to show that other families could easily do it too. I knew that my family alone couldn’t save the world, but if I could convince many other families to also make even a handful of small changes, then there would be a greater impact.
Then, the world changed forever, and my focus went from being particular about everyday products to just hoping I could get them fulfilled in my grocery delivery. Now that we seem to have finally achieved that “new normal” we’ve been promised, I find myself with more bandwidth to once again be more mindful of the products my family uses.
Dropps is a household cleaning products company (think laundry and dishwasher detergent) that is committed to powerful cleaning and no B.S. (bad stuff, of course!).
DROPPS review: No Bad Stuff
All Dropps products are free of dye-free, phthalate-free, phosphate-free and animal-cruelty-free. Their website provides an exhaustive list of ingredients in an effort to promote transparency between brand and consumer. Ingredients are sourced ethically and responsibly, and Dropps was even named the Environmental Protection Agency’s Safe Choice Partner of the Year for achievement in formulation and product manufacturing.
However, this formula isn’t any less effective. The laundry pods still got my family’s clothes clean, and were tough on stains and odors. The dishwasher pods left my glasses sparkling, and my dishes didn’t require any extra rinsing.
Dropps review: Eco responsible packaging and shipping
Clean, sustainably sourced ingredients is great, but it’s only one part of the problem with most consumer products. All Dropps products are shipped in packaging designed to reduce single use plastic. Traditionally, when you purchase laundry detergent, it comes in a giant plastic bottle or tub. Every part of Dropps’ packaging is recyclable, down to the tape and packing labels. Dropps estimates that this has kept over 3.5 million single use plastic tubs, buckets, and bins from polluting water ways.
Dropps has also reclaimed 100% of their shipping and electricity use carbon footprint through it’s partnership with Clearloop.
Dropps review: Making Chores Easier
One of my favorite aspects of Dropps is the Subscribe & Save option. Not only can you support a company dedicated to using clean, sustainable ingredients, and reducing their impact on the environment, but you can also have it shipped directly to your door. It may give you one less reason to put off that mountain of laundry though!

Overall, Dropps is the kind of company I’m excited to support. Their commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and offering a quality eco-friendly product at a budget friendly price is exactly what I wanted to support when I started this green swap journey in 2020. I’m always looking for ways to “automate” my life and to have one less thing to mentally keep track of. If I can do that while also doing one small thing for the environment, then it’s a win!
