I’ve shopped the Nordstrom sale for years. I have never gone overboard, because I just can’t wrap my head around buying a winter wardrobe in the dead of summer, but I usually get a couple of things. Below, I’m sharing what I got this year and whether I think it’s worth it, and a couple things I’ve bought for AJ over the years.
Pro Shopping Tip: buy your husband something so they forget about the things you bought for yourself!
You’ll notice there’s nothing here for kids. Typically, I don’t buy anything for the kids during this sale. Occasionally, I’ve bought one or two things I just couldn’t pass up (shoes are usually at a good price point), but there wasn’t anything I loved this year. They aren’t exactly gentle kids, and they’re really rough on their stuff, so it just doesn’t make sense to invest in stuff for them. Especially when they will outgrow it in a season.
Here is what I ordered or bought this year. I still feel like I’m building my wardrobe back up since having kids and I’m trying to be really realistic and intentional about what I’m adding (since I’m in athleisure 90% of the time). This is more than I would have bought in a normal year, and since a lot of it was bought online, it’s probably going back. I’ll keep ya posted.
Keeping For Sure
Thread & Supply Fleece Lined Quilted Utility Jacket
Wit & Wisdom Ab-Solution Ankle Skinny Jeans in black
Madewell 9 Inch Raw Hem Skinny Jeans
Still Waiting On….
Nordstrom has ridiculously slow shipping, even during non sale time. I’m still waiting on these two items.
North Face Vest (still waiting for this one to come in, so I’ll keep you posted. Also waiting on the denim version of the Wit & Wisdom Ab-Solution jeans.)
AJ is a really big dude. He’s about 6’5″ and was an offensive lineman in college. We have always joked that he is an ogre and we have to pay the ogre tax for his clothes because they usually cost more. Luckily, he wears a uniform to work and we don’t really have to buy an extensive wardrobe for him. Most stores don’t care clothes in the right cut and fit, but we’ve always had good luck at Nordstrom. His birthday also happens to be in July, so he usually gets a lot from this sale for his birthday! Here are a few splurge worthy favorites that are ogre approved.
Travis Mathew Good Good Polo Shirt these polos are really lightweight and good quality. Even better- they are long enough and don’t shrink to a crop top (a common ogre problem lol!)
Hurley Dri FIT Shorts these shorts are in heavy rotation in the summer. The comfort of Dri FIT, but more presentable than a gym short.
I almost always get him a pair of shoes, because Nordstrom is one of the only retailers that carries a size 14, but their selection has not been impressive this year. Definitely a bummer!
