I’M JUST GONNA SAY IT. Self-care in a pandemic t I’M JUST GONNA SAY IT. Self-care in a pandemic topped with a domestic terrorist attack is freaking hard and damn near impossible. We have both struggled with this a lot over the course of the last year, just like so many of you.

Recently on the blog and podcast, we talked about how a habit tracker has helped us take back some of that feeling of chaos. To focus on ourselves and small changes that can lead to a big impact overall.

2021 comin' in hot! 🔥 I'm not going to pretend 2021 comin' in hot! 🔥 I'm not going to pretend that at midnight everything will be miraculously better. It won't. But I am looking at this new year with cautious optimism; with a bit more resilience, a bit more grit, and a lot more perspective of what matters, we can all proceed with some sort of good from 2020. But my true thoughts about 2020 as a whole? ✨Swipe✨ to get those. 🤭

Ok, real question- do you fill your own stocking o Ok, real question- do you fill your own stocking or does "Santa"? 🤣
.
Playing Santa is a parenting highlight for me. I love filling stockings and thinking of little goodies to put in. One thing I always put in a toothbrush. My mom did too and I guess it just stuck with me.

What do you put in stockings? Err, sorry, what does Santa put in your stockings?

Confession: This is the first year we are doing th Confession: This is the first year we are doing the #elfontheshelf. I fought it for as long as I could, convinced that it was just another thing thrown onto parents' (read: moms') to-do lists in the busiest month of the year. Like how much more magic do these kids need?!
.
Blame the pandemic, but this year felt like we all needed a little more joy, so I caved. And I have not regretted it one bit. Maybe it's because I've farmed it out to AJ and this is in his wheelhouse, or maybe because there are fewer obligations than usual so it doesn't feel like a burden this year, or maybe just because it's still new and exciting. Whatever the magic combination is, it's been way more fun than I expected and fine I'll say it, the elf is fun! At 4 and 6, my kids are at peak Santa excitment/buy in, and it really is the best.

We all need a little more joy this year, so tell us, what is bringing you joy right now?

I’m doing a book advent with the kids for the first time this year. It’s the first year we’ve had enough books to do it, it simplifies the bedtime story selection process, and the kids are loving it. A win all around that’s getting added to our traditions.

What’s your favorite holiday book?

I'm picking my battles these days and giving myself a little grace by building in a few home runs into my meal plan each week. And in our house, that means grilled cheese. {ad} Using Oroweat® Country Style Butter Bread made with Land O' Lakes® Butter from Safeway elevates this simple meal, but using Land O' Lakes® Butter with Olive Oil & Sea Salt makes it irresistible, even for the pickiest eaters! All I do is add a bowl of soup for AJ and me, and everyone is happy! I love that @oroweatbread Country Style Butter Bread is made with whole ingredients, like whole milk. The @landolakesktchn Butter is so smooth and spreadable right out of the refrigerator, which makes the dinnertime hustle so much simpler. The best part?
