If you’ve followed us for a while, it’s no secret we love a margarita. There is something about a margarita that elicits the image of warm weather, a table full of guac on a patio and your best girlfriends all around you. That, my friends, is the epitome of self care for me. But, we’ve recently fallen for another cocktail. We’d like you all to meet our new love, the paloma.
A paloma is a take on a margarita, but with grapefruit instead of lime. Where a margarita has that tangy tart pucker factor, a paloma is much more smooth, yet has the same citrus profile. Profile is a fancy word for taste I learned from wine tasting. So fancy, right?!
And I have to add, neither Brittany or I are grapefruit people. Never, ever in my life have I chosen a grapefruit flavored anything, but I love a paloma. So, if you are a fellow non-grapefruiter, a paloma is worth a try. Oddly enough, it doesn’t taste grapefruit-y to me at all. I know that makes no sense. Trust me.
- 1/4 cup silver tequila
- 1/4 cup lime flavored sparkling water
- 1/8 cup 100% grapefruit juice
- 1 teaspoon simple syrup
- Juice of one lime
- lime to garnish
- coarse salt or sugar for the rim, if desired
- Wet rim of glass and dip in sugar or salt, depending on taste.
- Shake or mix tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Pour over ice into the glass.
- Top off with sparkling water and garnish with a lime.
Best enjoyed on a warm, shady patio with girlfriends
Is there really anything better than sitting around catching up with girlfriends over drinks on a warm summer night? Talk about self care! The paloma is made for a moment just like that.
A paloma is also a perfect summer cocktail for a barbecue, sitting by the pool, or just while your hiding in your closet from your kids. Don’t let the grapefruit deter you, we promise it’s worth a try!
