Mom win of the week: But now that Nolan is a few months into 3, I have to say, it’s a 2 year old thing. They’re just crazy! It’s like aliens came and removed their brains and then brought them back on their 3rd birthdays. I have just been so amused and obsessed with him lately. We have seen a tremendous change in his behavior (and others have mentioned it too, so I know it’s not just me). He’s talking like crazy, he’s helping clean up (on his own even sometimes!), he’s listening and it’s nothing short of a miracle because he was (is) a wild man. Obviously, he’s still a kid and has his moments, but it’s definitely been a sigh of relief that what I’m doing is working and the things I’m saying are sinking in.
It’s almost making me see how fleeting these little years are and making me want another. Almost. Another two year old might will kill me.
Mom fail of the week: I have this weird mom fantasy where I can go for a run and my kids just safely bike along with me. No pushing a giant stroller and no one gets run over by a car. I was one workout away from a perfect week on my Apple Watch (which just means I got out for 30 minutes of exercise each day for 7 days) last Sunday, so I attempted it. I didn’t have a distance goal, just the goal to move for 30 minutes. They started out fine, and I got overly confident and probably went too big for our first outing. We headed out to our neighborhood trail, which is in an open space and it always gets really windy. Isla was actually being pushed backwards on her bike from the wind, so it was obviously extra hard to pedal. We were out on the trail, so the only option was to keep going, which made for some great conversations about how we can do hard things and be brave. We got two miles total, I definitely hit my goal and everyone lived! Good learning experience for all of us! It was also hotter than I expected, and we were all very red faced when we got back. I rewarded them with popsicles at 10 AM!
Currently…
Listening to: Jonas Brothers! Isla is really into music right now. She wants to know the title and artist for every song on the radio and (shocking) pop is her favorite. It’s Taylor Swift and Jonas Brothers on repeat and I’m not sure what year it is anymore.
Watching: We just finished Dead to Me on Netflix and are halfway through Schitt’s Creek. We are loving both!
Wearing: I found these high waisted shorts at Old Navy and have been loving them!
Doing these webinars for 5 days straight has meant doing hair and makeup that many days in a row. And I learned that you can’t put your hair in a ponytail like I normally would with dirty hair because you’ll look like a young colonial boy on a webcam. I found two products that have been helping revive my hair and extend the washes a little bit more. I have wavy, medium thick hair. My scalp gets fairly greasy, but dry shampoo can usually handle most of it. The ends were getting super dry though. Did you know Dry Conditioner exists?? I had no idea, but I’m loving this one from Kristin Ess. I’m also loving the Kristin Ess Hair Water refresh my hair before styling. I have no idea if similar products exist in other lines, but these are available at Target, which makes them easy to grab.
Looking forward to: This next quarter! AJ’s schedule changes quarterly and for 3rd quarter he will be working swing shift with WEEKENDS OFF! He has been working graveyard shift the last three quarters and it’s a freaking grind. It’s really hard on the kids to have him sleeping during the day and missing so much, and this new schedule will give use more family time, which I am so ready for.
Planning: this Summer Series! I feel like we’ve been eating/sleeping/breathing/living this for so long and we hope you’re loving it as much as we are.
Meal plan: it’s been nonexistent. I’m hoping to get a list together of easy meals for summer that don’t require a hot oven. Anyone else hate cooking in the summer when it’s so hot?
