When the school year starts, I’ll have both kids in school full time 🙌🏼🙌🏼 it’s the moment I’ve been waiting for! Nolan (maybe for the first time ever for this daredevil) is feeling a little nervous about going to Kindergarten, so we’ve been reading a ton of books about what it will be like. Some funny, some a little more serious, but all helping this guy get ready for the big transition to the big school. ⁠

I’m sharing a list of the favorites we’ve found for your incoming Kinder, and a lot of them would work for older kids who are also feeling nervous about yet another school year with possible changes and unknowns. ⁠

Another summer salad coming atcha! This Asian Ramen Chicken Salad is so easy and so delicious.⁠
⁠
For the salad, toss together:⁠⁠
▪️ 5c chopped green cabbage⁠
▪️ 3c chopped purple cabbage⁠
▪️ 2 pkgs dry ramen, seasoning packet discarded⁠
▪️ Big handful shredded carrots⁠
▪️ 1/2c sliced green onions⁠
▪️ 2 Tbsp sesame seeds⁠
⁠
For the dressing, whisk together:⁠⁠
▪️ 1/2c canola oil⁠
▪️ 1/4c apple cider vinegar⁠
▪️ 1/4c granulated sugar⁠
▪️ 1 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce⁠
▪️ 1/2 tsp sesame oil⁠
▪️ 1/2 tsp black pepper⁠
▪️ 1/4 tsp garlic powder⁠
▪️ 1/4 tsp onion powder⁠
▪️ 1/4 tsp dried ginger⁠
▪️ salt to taste⁠

Pool construction is not for the feint of heart, especially an owner builder pool construction. Kicking off this holiday weekend with a cocktail and staring at The Pit, as I’ve been calling it, (a la Parks and Rec...you can’t tell me Nolan isn’t Andy Dwyer and I’m turning into an overeager Leslie Knope trying to do anything I can to speed this process up) and wishing it was finished. The forecasted high for Memorial Day is 106° 🥵 Trying to focus on how amazing the finished product will be, remember this will (unfortunately) not be the last triple digit day for a long while, and looking for silver linings like remembering how fortunate we are to have such a mess on our hands.

With little over a week before school is out I’m trying to make the most of my kid free time, which mostly means taking time to actually get dressed and ignoring the Clothes Chair behind me and the dirty mirror.
I’m so ready for the school year to be over, but kind of dreading yet another schedule/routine change of the kids being home. Just yet another pivot, but at least the transition to kids being home for summer feels “normal”! What are your summer plans? Back to activities or soaking up the lazy summer days?

✨Save✨ this post for the next time you have a summer salad craving! 🥦 Sometimes I forget that a salad can be more than mixed greens and store-bought dressing. I threw together this Broccoli Salad the other night and I think it will be one of our summer staples!⁠⁠

For the salad, toss together:⁠⁠
▪️ chopped broccoli⁠⁠
▪️ chopped red onion⁠⁠
▪️ chopped, cooked bacon⁠⁠
▪️ handful of sunflower seeds⁠⁠
▪️ handful of craisins⁠⁠
▪️ 1 cup of orzo⁠⁠

For the dressing, mix:⁠⁠
▪️ equal parts Greek yogurt and mayonnaise⁠⁠
▪️ honey to taste⁠⁠
▪️ 2 tbsp white wine vinegar⁠⁠

Toss together, chill in the fridge for a few hours, and enjoy!
