A tequila soda cocktail is the perfect refreshing drink, and has quickly become my new favorite. It tastes fresh and not overly sugary, with hints of citrus. In fact, it tastes very similar to a margarita, but without the heavy, syrupy taste of the sweet and sour mix.
One thing I like about it is that a tequila soda cocktail tastes like a specialty cocktail, but doesn’t require any special ingredients. You can make it with just tequila, soda water, and lime juice. But, if it can also be dressed up with a flavored sparkling water, like La Croix, and topped with a splash of a flavored simple syrup to give it a more complex flavor if you’re feeling like something fancy.
I’m going to share the way I make the “fancy” version of my tequila soda cocktail, but know that it still tastes just as good without all the extras.
Ingredients for a Tequila Soda cocktail
- Tequila
- Soda water, either plain or flavored
- Lime juice
- Orange simple syrup
I recommend a blanco or silver tequila. Costco’s Kirkland Signature tequila is an amazing budget brand. If you’re looking to splurge a little, I also like Don Julio or Patron.
I like to use a lime flavored sparkling water. A plain soda water is also fine since you will be adding lime juice, but I like the added citrus taste.
Orange simple syrup can be purchased at any grocery store, but it is surprisingly easy to make yourself! Check out the recipe here.
Tequila Soda Cocktail
This tequila soda cocktail is a refreshingly crisp drink, and perfect with a splash of orange simple syrup
Ingredients
- 1.5 ounces blanco tequila
- Soda water
- Lime juice
- Orange simple syrup (optional)
Instructions
- Measure tequila into the glass of your choice. Add the juice of half of a lime. Add a splash of orange simple syrup, mixing all together thoroughly.
- Add ice. Top off with the soda water and garnish with a lime.
Notes
Any flavor of sparkling water will do!
A tequila soda cocktail is now my go to drink! As much as I hate to admit it, the older I get, the harder it is to drink things with more sugar, like wine. A tequila soda has all my favorite flavors, and is refreshing, but without that icky sugar feeling. Topped with the homemade orange simple syrup, and it feels like I’m laying on a tropical beach without a care in the world, even if I’m just in my messy kitchen with kids screaming in the background!

Love this recipe! So fresca and cool on a hot summer day. I also made the orange simple syrup. It’s perfect for those who like a perfect not so sweet drink. I made it with 100% blue agave tequila blanco from Mexico. Salud! Thank you for sharing ❤️
